Synopsis
Edgar Allen is an aspiring screenwriter whose best attribute is his wild imagination. He imagines scenes so vividly for the murder mystery he is writing that they seem to come to life…and they do! As mysterious murders pile up, and the line between reality and imagination becomes more and more blurred, Edgar, who is convinced that the only way to be a real writer is to suffer, is slowly driven mad.
Long an outlier in the Troma catalogue, Screamplay was filmed almost entirely in a Boston loft, for only $50,000. A motley crew of creatives, led by writer-director-star Seder, used a host of early cinematic techniques to produce a charmingly hand-made and wildly inventive black-and-white horror parody. Screamplay also features a memorable performance from underground film legend George Kuchar (Thundercrack!)
